What factors are considered in Harker School’s admissions process?

Both academic and non-academic factors are taken into account. The admissions committee seeks out students with various interests, curiosity, and a love of learning. A strong candidate is one who aspires to participate in the Harker and larger communities and exhibits high integrity and character. In order to create a community where kids are supported on their own journeys, they also seek out families who share their mission and are interested in collaboration.

Students with a variety of interests, skills, and viewpoints are accepted. If your kid is not accepted in a particular year, they might be accepted in a subsequent year. Every year, the admissions officers strike a balance between the requirements of the grade level and the candidate pool. There are instances when a child in a different grade level is a better fit for Harker.

After reviewing applicant files, the admission committee members gather to debate and offer suggestions to the admission office. By looking for children and families who reflect a variety of interests and experiences, the committee hopes to determine which students are the best fit for Harker. They evaluate each applicant’s file holistically, considering all relevant factors while making an admissions decision.

Whether or not a student is offered admission is not determined by a single component. The goal is to admit a varied and well-rounded group of students who will flourish at Harker and contribute to the school community as a whole.

One of the following admission decisions will be made for each completed application:

  • Acceptance: The candidate receives an invitation to enroll and an offer of admission.
  • Wait Pool: Applicants who meet the requirements but have no openings will be added to the wait pool, which does not have a ranked list. The admission committee will examine all wait pool applications and choose the applicant who most closely matches the composition of that grade if a spot opens between March and late August. Applicants must reapply because the wait pool does not roll over to the following admissions season.
  • Regrets: The applicant does not fulfill the school’s standards, and Harker may not be the best fit at this time. Some students need to reapply for a later grade level with stronger applications.
