ACT Practice Test

The ACT is a standardized test used by many colleges to support admissions decisions. It gives an initial impression of a student’s readiness for college. It also assesses a student’s skills in the core areas (reading, math, English, and scientific reasoning).

ACT Content

  1. The ACT has four sections: English, math, reading, and science.
  2. All sections are multiple-choice tests.
  3. There is an optional writing test.
  4. It takes approximately 4 hours to complete including the 40-minute essay section.

ACT Scoring

  1. A point is given for every correct answer, there is no penalty for guessing.
  2. The raw score is the total of all correct answers from the four sections which are then converted into a scale score of 1-36.
  3. The composite score or overall ACT score is the average of the raw scores from the four sections rounded to the nearest whole number.
  4. The optional essay is graded separately based on an analytic scoring rubric.

ACT Tutoring

  1. We teach students how to handle time pressure by mastering the pacing of math, science, English, and reading sections by developing focus and time management skills.
  2. Students are taught how to develop calculator strategies that they can apply in the math portion of the ACT.
  3. We equip the students with knowledge and mastery of the different science concepts of the ACT.

For Students with Accommodations

  1. We teach students how to maintain focus and stamina throughout the test.
  2. We develop test-taking skills and ensure that students know how to make the most of extra time allotment.
  3. Specialized accommodation strategy is given to students with learning differences or those that have a temporary condition that is impairing their ability to take the ACT.

The ACT is a standardized test that consists of multiple-choice questions in English, math, reading, and science. It also has an optional writing test. It is used by many colleges to support admissions decisions as it gives an initial impression of a student’s readiness for college.

We strongly recommend that you take the optional writing test if you have strong writing skills. Along with impressive scores, GPA, and subject grades, this could be a very important differentiating factor in your application which could influence the decision of admissions officers.

The score range for the ACT is from 1-36 with a corresponding percentile rank. The higher your score is, the better reflection it would be on your performance. The average score is 20 which means that you scored higher than the others. Aim for a score of 24 which would place you in the 74th percentile.

Most schools would still want to see your test scores despite being test optional because it will show your aptitude and readiness to take on more advanced coursework in college. Having a strong test score will boost your chances of admission.
