The application is the same one domestic applicants use, submitted through Gateway to Prep Schools by January 15, with an online interview and optional standardized testing. What the Application Asks of an International Applicant
There is no separate international application. Your child completes the Inquiry Form, interviews online between September and February, and submits through Gateway to Prep Schools by January 15. Decisions arrive on March 10.
Two things reliably catch families off guard. The first is that the interview is online only and capped at one per applicant, which removes the option of flying in to make a stronger impression in person. The second is the transcript requirement: current grades plus the record from the previous two years, translated where necessary, from a school system the committee may not know well. Where a curriculum is unfamiliar, a counselor letter that explains the grading scale and the difficulty of the courses chosen does more good than families expect.

How Choate Rosemary Hall Admissions Supports Arrival

International Pre-Orientation
All new international students take part in a pre-orientation programme during their first full academic year. It includes a summer mentorship with a returning senior international student, introductions to faculty and campus area directors, sessions with prefects and current students, and social events designed so that new arrivals know a few faces before the wider student body returns.
The International Student Mentor Programme
New international students are paired with rising fifth and sixth form students, occasionally fourth form, who each mentor one to three students. Mentors help run pre-orientation, attend mentor and mentee events each term, and meet one-to-one as schedules allow. The design does two jobs at once: it gives a new student a named person to ask, and it gives an older student real responsibility.
Cultural Programming
International Education Week runs each October, and affinity groups organise campus-wide observances including Lunar New Year and Diwali. Roughly fifteen student clubs focus on equity and inclusion, and the Office of Equity and Inclusion oversees four affinity groups including the Asian Affinity Space.
The First Year, Honestly
Support structures reduce the difficulty of the first term. They do not remove it. A student who has always been the strongest in their class arrives somewhere that everyone was, in a language that may not be their first, on a schedule that runs from morning classes through afternoon athletics into evening study hours. The academic adjustment is usually manageable. The one that catches families is the social and emotional one, and it tends to arrive around week six rather than week one.
