What is the difference between private school admissions consulting and college admissions consulting?

Conceptually, private school admissions consulting and college admissions consulting are the same. The difference lies in the institution in which they target.

A private school admissions consultant will help students gain admission to top-tier K-12 private schools or private high schools. Consultants will help students create strategies for taking standardized tests such as the SSAT and ISEE. Furthermore, they may advise families through essay creation, interviews, and so on. A reputable consultant will also provide holistic skill building to ensure that a student is ready with skills such as time management and personal responsibility as they enter a competitive educational environment.

A college admissions consultant, on the other hand, will provide strategic aid for a student graduating from a K-12 institution and entering an undergraduate or postsecondary institution. They assist in aspects such as standardized tests (SAT, ACT), personal statements, college essays, and extracurriculars. The process builds a competitive application profile that makes a student stand out.

In some cases, a student may go from working with a private school admissions consultant to working with a college

admissions consultant as they make the transition.
