When should my child start preparing for the ACT in Los Angeles?

Starting early avoids the panic later. We recommend students begin prepping in the spring or summer before junior year. Why? Because once junior year hits, it’s a whirlwind of AP classes, school musicals, robotics competitions, and that unexpected Model UN conference. Giving your child a solid 4–6 months of lead time means they can build skills gradually, not cram them in between swim practice and calculus homework.

Plus, starting early allows time for a second test date (or two) if they want to improve their score. The ACT isn’t just about what you know—it’s about how calm and collected you are when the timer starts. In a city where students juggle auditions, internships, and SAT Subject Test regrets, spacing out the prep is key to keeping things cool, confident, and crush-worthy.
