What do boarding schools do to help students adjust?

Boarding schools take student adjustment seriously and start helping even before classes begin. Most offer orientation programs where students tour the campus, meet teachers and peers, and learn their daily routines. Many schools also pair new students with older “buddy” mentors who offer guidance and friendship. Trained counselors are ready to discuss homesickness or anything else a student might be experiencing. To foster a laid-back, friendly atmosphere, schools normally schedule dorm activities such as movie evenings and game contests. Students have all they need to settle in, develop friends, and feel at home—structurally, emotionally, and with connection all in place.
