Are these trips open to all grade levels or just upperclassmen?

It depends on the school, but many academic travel programs are designed with upperclassmen in mind since they tend to align with more advanced coursework and mature themes. That said, some schools do open select trips to younger students who are ready for the challenge. Translation: if a freshman can handle a passport and a packed itinerary without losing either, they might be in luck. The real deciding factor is usually the trip’s academic focus, the student’s readiness, and sometimes teacher recommendations. So while it’s often juniors and seniors racking up the frequent flyer miles, eager and responsible younger students may still get their shot. Just don’t forget to pack your curiosity, and maybe some extra socks.
