Berkeley Hall School’s Fantastic After-School Program

After-school Programs are programs designed to enrich learners even after the school day has ended. It’s a simple concept that not many schools implement despite the benefits it brings to young learners. Berkeley Hall School is one of the few institutions that realize the importance of programs like these, and it is a core part of the student life at Berkeley Hall.
Why Are After-school Programs Important?
Engaging Students Beyond the Classroom
After-school Programs are important in a lot of ways, they provide a safe and structured environment for students after the school day ends. But why not just let students off the hook? Why not just let students be free from school at the end of the day? Well, you certainly could but what do you think that free time is being used for? In our day and age, our kids are chronically online. There’s certainly no harm in spending a bit of time on social media or even video games. But what if they spent it on other more productive things? After-school Programs answers this with a slew of activities that are not only fun, but build on the child’s skills and guide the child’s behaviour.
Supporting Working Parents
These programs don’t only help students, but parents as well. The end of the school day doesn’t necessarily mean mom or dad are at home from work. With inflation off the roof, most of us parents are working double shifts to make ends meet. That means we would need to leave our kids unsupervised for practically hours each day. However, with the After-school programs, we can be rest assured that they’re being supervised by faculty and staff. Not only does this provide peace of mind, but it also ensures that children are engaged in meaningful activities rather than spending hours alone.
What Makes the After-school Program at Berkeley Hall Different?
Berkeley Hall School’s After-School Enrichment Program (ASEP) offers a diverse array of activities designed to complement our students’ academic journey and personal interests. Operating from school dismissal until 6:00 PM on school days, ASEP provides a safe and supportive environment where students can engage in various pursuits.
Enrichment Classes
In collaboration with Parker-Anderson, ASEP offers a wide selection of classes led by outside professionals. These classes cater to a broad spectrum of interests, ensuring that every student can find something that excites them. For instance, students can explore their creativity in “Being Da Vinci – Art, Science & Culture,” develop culinary skills in “BHS Junior Chef,” or engage in strategic thinking with “Checkmate Chess.” For those inclined towards physical activities, options like “Hip Hop, Breakdancing & Tumbling,” “Intro to Tennis,” and “Karate” are available. Additionally, classes such as “Lego Robotics; Coding & Minecraft” offer opportunities to delve into technology and innovation.
These are just a few examples of the many classes offered. With such a wide range of options, Berkeley Hall’s after-school program provides a unique and holistic experience that makes every afternoon both enriching and enjoyable for our students.

- Are After-school Programs only about academics?
No! Although most schools do offer academic-based activities, it’s most often a mix of different activities to give students a holistic experience. - Are Berkeley Hall’s enrichment classes first-come, first-served?
Yes! Berkeley Hall’s enrichment classes fill up on a first-come, first-served basis, so early registration is a must for anyone interested. These classes are often very comprehensive with hands-on activities and expert instruction. To keep this quality in the class, spots are limited so the experience won’t overwhelm the instructor, and they can tailor the experience to each student.
