Are you living in Singapore and considering sending your child to study in the U.S.? Well, you’re in for some intense competition, not just from local students, but from thousands of international applicants as well. If you want your child to stand out, one of the best ways is to submit impressive standardized test scores, like the ACT.
Cardinal Education works with families around the globe, including Singapore, to deliver personalized, results-driven ACT prep. Through one-on-one online tutoring, adaptive study plans, and comprehensive college admissions guidance, we help students improve scores and build strong application profiles. Whether your child attends United World College of South East Asia (Dover and East), Singapore American School, Tanglin Trust School, and other schools following the IB Diploma or Singapore-Cambridge A-Levels curriculum, we can deliver results.
The ACT is a standardized college entrance exam used by U.S. universities to assess academic readiness. It includes four required sections:
There’s also an optional Writing section, often recommended for top schools. The test measures a student’s ability to reason, analyze, and interpret information—skills vital for success in college and beyond.
Many colleges have adopted test-optional policies, but strong ACT scores still give international students a major edge. For U.S. admissions officers reviewing transcripts from unfamiliar grading systems, a high ACT score adds clarity and academic credibility.
Top colleges like Harvard, Yale, MIT, and Dartmouth are once again requiring standardized testing, and many other selective universities strongly encourage it even if it is not mandatory.
Our advice is to take the tests and submit impressive scores. With so many students vying for spots in top colleges, there is a dire need to stand out, and having great test scores alongside high grades will definitely make admissions officers notice your child.
The ACT is typically offered in Singapore 5–6 times a year, usually in Sept, Oct, Dec, Feb, Apr, June, and July, with two testing windows per session (morning and afternoon). According to the official listing, the active ACT centers are:

Starting early allows for deeper mastery and less pressure during peak school months.
We help families in Singapore maximize ACT scores and gain acceptance to the best colleges in the U.S.—without ever needing to leave home.
The best time to start ACT prep is about four to six months before your child’s planned test date. This timeline gives enough space to build skills gradually without having to cram or feel burned out. It also gives enough room to take unlimited full-length practice tests that really help with timing and stamina. We understand that juggling IB, A-Levels, and other demanding curriculum, your child is already under a lot of stress, and we don’t want to add to that. Starting ACT test prep early means the topics can be spaced out sensibly, which usually leads to better long-term retention. Plus, if they decide to take the ACT more than once, which many students do, you’ve already built a solid foundation. So yes, earlier is better. Summer’s often ideal if they’re aiming for fall or winter test dates.
One of the biggest differences is the pacing. ACT questions tend to come at you faster, so time management is a real skill to build. Also, the ACT includes a Science section, which isn’t really about memorized facts, but more about interpreting data, graphs, and experiments. If your child is quick and confident under time pressure, they might prefer the ACT. On the other hand, some students like the structure of the SAT better, so it really depends. We usually recommend a diagnostic for both exams so you can see which one fits best. There’s no one-size-fits-all here. The right test is the one where your child feels more in control.
Yes. In fact, that’s one of the things that sets us apart. We’re not just ACT tutors. We’re full-service U.S. college admissions consultants. Many of our families in Singapore come to us not just for test prep, but for everything else too, like building a school list, planning a timeline, writing powerful personal statements, prepping for interviews, and even strategizing when to apply early. We’ve worked with international families for years, so we understand the added layers of complexity, such as different grading systems and cultural differences in how applications are approached. If you’re aiming for top-tier colleges, our team can walk with you from test prep all the way to acceptance letters.
Yes, we do! Even though we’re based in California, we regularly work with students across Asia, including many in Singapore. Our tutors are incredibly flexible and used to adjusting their schedules to match yours. Whether your child prefers after-school sessions, weekend mornings, or even an evening slot after dinner, we’ll make it work. We know students in Singapore already have packed schedules, so we do everything we can to make tutoring convenient and stress-free. The time zone difference isn’t a barrier. It’s something we plan for. We’ve been doing this for years and have been very successful in making students achieve their highest ACT scores.
