Overview

The Forman School, nestled in the town of Litchfield, Connecticut, is a coeducational college preparatory school founded way back in 1930. The school caters to ninth-grade to twelfth-grade students with identified learning differences such as executive function difficulties, ADHD, dysgraphia, dyslexia, or dyscalculia. It is known for its strong commitment to educating academically motivated students who learn differently than most students. Through its experienced faculty members, Forman delivers unequaled education to students with learning differences.

Forman students are highly motivated to explore plethoric artistic, social, academic, and athletic opportunities. Its faculty and staff make sure every student is given equal opportunities and is not being defined by their learning difference. By doing so, the Forman School strives to free up its students’ energy to focus on their interests, passions, and talent, and along the way, develop a character that overpowers their diagnoses. In terms of outcomes, the school takes pride in having a 100% college acceptance rate and sending all its students to 4-year colleges.

Forman School Admissions Requirements

Diagnostic Testing

To get into the Forman School, all applicants must submit educational testing results. The tests should have been given within the last three years and the scores submitted before scheduling an interview or a campus visit. Aspiring Forman students who are 16 years of age and below can take the Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children (WISC) or, if older, the Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale (WAIS). You can also choose to take either the Woodcock-Johnson IV (WJ-IV) or the Wechsler Individual Achievement Test (WIAT-III). These tests are required as the Forman School needs to understand your child’s individual needs and how they can best support them.

Personal Statements and Essays

Personal statements or admissions essays are more opportunities for you to give the admissions committee an insight into your aspirations and your background! You should demonstrate your writing skills as you give your reasons why the Forman School Admissions Committee should accept you as one of their own. Our admissions experts can help you leave lasting impressions through a good narrative! Are you struggling with writing? If so, we advise you to check out our Program in Writing and Reading to help you develop into an active, inquisitive reader and significantly improve your writing skills.

Parent Statements

Parents or guardians are required to answer a form that is found both on the Forman internal application portal and on SAO. The questions presented will ask you to talk about your child and share information about their personality, achievements, and other personal information all within a very limited word count. It will also demonstrate your family’s commitment to your child’s education. When choosing what to write about, remember that you have to be honest and authentic. Focus on your child’s strengths and unique characteristics, and provide anecdotes to support your statements. Letters of Recommendation

Applicants are required to submit at least three letters of recommendation to The Forman School. One from your child’s Math teacher, one from their English teacher, and one from either their principal or counselor. Forms can be accessed from the Forman website or through SAO.

Recommendation letters allow your child’s current school to vouch for the qualities and areas of interest mentioned in the application. You should take this as an opportunity to work closely with your child’s school to build a strong relationship and ensure that their letters highlight your child’s strongest qualities to leave a lasting impression on the admissions officers.

But you should also keep in mind that every piece of information written in these recommendation letters must be supported by your child’s other credentials, which include GPA, extracurriculars, and test scores. At Cardinal Education, we provide our students with comprehensive admissions services such as interview preparation, academic advising, tutoring, and writing services for parent statements, student statements, essays, and recommendation letters!

Transcript

Besides showcasing academic prowess, your child’s preparedness to take on Forman education will be shown in their transcripts. But what if their transcripts are not that remarkable? We recommend that they start working hard as early as possible. Our academic coaches and tutors can help them get higher grades, but there is no telling the time it will take. We offer online or in-person diagnostic testing, tutoring, and academic coaching for different courses. Even so, it is best not to be complacent about having good grades. To boost your chances of getting into the Forman School, we will equip your child with fundamental skills in time management, notetaking, and study skills to help them overcome challenges that might hinder them from succeeding.

Admissions Interview

Admissions officers will be asking questions that gauge whether your child is a good fit for Forman’s academic structure and community.  They based their evaluation on answers and character traits that can be observed during the process.

Feeling anxious? Check out our interview preparation program to help your child gear up and be confident. Our educational consultants can conduct mock interviews with your family so you can practice answering common interview questions. Our experts will proactively work with your child to help them articulate their responses well and straight to the point.
