About the School
Sea Crest Through an Asian American Family’s Lens
Sea Crest does not publish a current, specific Asian American enrollment percentage; a dated third-party figure put students of color overall at approximately 28%, below the California statewide average of 51%, though families should treat this as historical context rather than a guaranteed current figure. Sea Crest’s proximity to Silicon Valley shapes its identity directly, with hands-on projects like the 6th grade Solar Suitcase Project drawing on volunteer expertise from parents working in the technology sector. Founded in 1996, Sea Crest is a nonsectarian, coeducational JK–8 school in Half Moon Bay.

What Families Should Ask Given Limited Public Data
Since Sea Crest’s most recent published demographic breakdown is dated, families interested in the current Asian American community should ask direct questions during a visit: what current student community and representation look like, how Sea Crest’s Silicon Valley connections show up in projects like the Solar Suitcase Project, and what current Asian American families say about their experience.

What the Sea Crest Application Requires
-
01School Visits (Parent/Guardian Tours & Sneak Peek Visits)
Parent/Guardian Tours are open to prospective adult visitors across all grades. For Junior Kindergarten and Kindergarten, prospective families and applicants can also attend interactive Sneak Peek Visits to experience early childhood classrooms firsthand.
-
02Teacher Recommendations
Applicants must delegate Teacher Evaluation forms electronically via the Blackbaud portal. Grades JK–5 require one form from the primary homeroom or lead preschool teacher, while Grades 6–8 require two forms from current Math and English/Humanities teachers.
-
03Transcript & School Records
Parents request official academic records electronically through the Blackbaud candidate portal. Grades 1–8 require report cards covering the current year’s first term and the entire prior school year; records are generally not required for JK–K unless attending a formal preschool with progress reports.
-
04Shadow Visit & Assessments
Required for all applicants entering Grades JK–8. Applicants entering Grades JK–K attend an interactive weekend Assessment Playgroup, while Grades 1–8 applicants complete a weekday classroom Shadow Visit along with age-appropriate internal assessments in math, reading, and writing.
-
05Parent/Guardian Conversation
A dedicated conversation with the Sea Crest admissions team is scheduled via the Blackbaud portal following the student visit. These meetings are held exclusively with parents/guardians to discuss their child’s educational background, learning needs, and family values.
