What can I do to improve executive functioning?
Good executive function and self-regulation are not skills people are born with, they are developed over time. So how can you help your child develop executive functioning skills? Here are some useful tips you can do at home even for older kids:
- Teach organization. Let your child arrange and rearrange his things according to functionality.
- Teach time management. Assign tasks and chores to your child and make a daily schedule so it becomes routine rather than a burden.
- Teach study skills. Help your child make a calendar and alongside his house tasks, make a schedule for his school work.
Make a checklist to make sure that all tasks for the day are accomplished. Include reading time and making projects that are fun to encourage and motivate your child to study in a more efficient and independent way.
