Everything families need to know about the fully online Grades 5–12 school formerly known as Avenues Silicon Valley and Avenues Online

Quick Answer for Busy Parents

AEON School is a private, independent, fully online school for Grades 5–12, formed from Avenues Online and Avenues Silicon Valley. It enrolls 175 students from 26 countries in live classes of 10 to 15. Admissions are rolling, with applications opening October 5, 2026, for mid-year and fall starts, and spots are limited. There’s no required entrance exam; AEON evaluates families through applications, records, a teacher evaluation, a parent meeting, and a student interview, all online.

Why Do Families Choose AEON School?

AEON began in 2019 with 22 pioneering students, founded by former leaders of Avenues: The World School as the online campus of that global network. It later merged with Avenues Silicon Valley and rebranded as AEON, a name combining “AON,” the school’s shorthand for Avenues Online, with the Greek word for “forever.” Families choose it for three reasons. First, rigor in a small format: live, discussion-driven seminars of 10 to 15 students built on the Great Works core. Second, reach: classmates in 26 countries, and optional in-person AEON Pods for local community. Third, flexibility, through programs designed for students with serious pursuits outside school. AEON is accredited by NEASC and is a member of NACAC and International ACAC.

AEON’s Mission and Organization

AEON School is a division of Aeon Learning Sciences, which says it exists “to create innovative solutions that enable learners to move the world.” It is led by the same team that built Avenues: The World School, its home base is New York, NY 10013, and its former identity as a separate Silicon Valley campus has been retired in favor of one unified online school.

How Hard Is It to Get Into AEON School?

AEON doesn’t publish an acceptance rate, and with 175 students, it’s a small school by design. Because applications are reviewed on a rolling basis in the order received and spots are limited, timing can matter as much as the file itself. What AEON weighs is fit for live online learning: academic records, a teacher’s view of character, and how the family and student come across in their Zoom conversations. Families often compare AEON with Stanford Online High School, another rigorous online option, and with Avenues: The World School’s physical campuses.

Top Tips for Applying

  • Apply soon after applications open, since review happens in the order received.
  • Show that your child can manage independent work, not just earn good grades.
  • Prepare your child for a relaxed, curious conversation in the student interview.
  • Pick a teacher evaluator who knows your child’s character and work habits well.

Best Practices for Families

  • Attend the Parent Info Session and a visit day before you apply.
  • Talk openly in the admissions conversation about why online learning fits your family.
  • Gather one to two years of records early, especially from international schools.
  • Decide on a mid-year or fall start with your child’s current school year in mind.

Does AEON School Require an Entrance Exam?

No. AEON doesn’t require entrance testing. The SSAT and the Character Skills Snapshot are accepted as optional supplements, along with recommendations, portfolios, writing samples, and individualized learning plans.

Can My Child Start AEON Mid-Year?

Yes. AEON offers mid-year and fall start dates, and applications opening October 5, 2026, cover both. Because spots are limited and reviewed in order, mid-year families should apply as soon as they’re ready.

Student Life at AEON School

Academics

AEON’s program includes Great Works (literature), history, philosophy, economics, social sciences, Math Inquiry, science, engineering, technology, design, Global Passport (world languages), and Learning and Wellbeing. Great Works integrates English, social studies, science, and arts, with students reading whole Great Books and debating them. Math Inquiry is problem-based and modeled on materials developed at Phillips Exeter Academy. Global Passport offers Chinese, French, German, Japanese, Russian, and Spanish through task-based learning. Succeeding here takes strong study habits and self-management.

Activities

Because AEON is online, student life looks different from a campus school. Its signature programs include Mastery, a selective, credit-bearing independent project course for high schoolers; J-Term, two mini-terms in January and June with deep dives, intensives, and in-person gatherings; and AEON Pods, small local groups who learn together in person each day.

Athletics

AEON doesn’t field traditional teams. Instead, its Flex Program supports students who need flexibility for athletics, arts, competitions, or other extracurricular pursuits, so serious training doesn’t come at the expense of school.

Arts

The arts are woven into the Great Works core alongside English, social studies, and science, and design appears throughout AEON’s academic program.

Summer Programs

AEON doesn’t publish a separate summer program. Its J-Term includes a June mini-term with intensives and in-person gatherings.

Notable AEON Alumni

AEON features these graduates on its own site, by first name only.

  1. Magda, Class of 2025: Olympic sabre fencer now studying at the University of Notre Dame.
  2. Onkar, Class of 2024: Y Combinator-backed founder at 1X and a Rise Global Winner.
  3. Violetta, Class of 2023: Matriculated to Johns Hopkins University.
  4. Aryan, Class of 2023: Founder and CEO of Induced AI.

Is AEON Right for Your Child?

AEON rewards a particular kind of student: curious, self-directed, and comfortable speaking up in a small online seminar. For that student, it can be a remarkable fit. We help families answer that question honestly, then build an application that reflects who their child really is.
