Groton School Application Requirements & Checklist
- 01Standardized Testing Requirements
Groton requires standardized test results: the SSAT (code 3598) or ISEE (code 220930). Second Formers may take the middle or upper-level SSAT; Third Formers, the upper-level SSAT; Fourth and Fifth Formers may submit the PSAT, SAT, ACT, or upper-level SSAT. All grade levels may submit the ISEE. November or December test dates are preferred. Non-native English speakers who haven’t studied in an English-language school for the past two years should also submit TOEFL iBT, IELTS, or Duolingo English Test results (code 8224 for TOEFL).
- 02Recommendations & Transcripts
Applicants submit a Principal/Counselor Recommendation, a Current English Teacher Recommendation, and a Current Math Teacher Recommendation, plus a Personal Recommendation and/or a Special Interest Recommendation. All forms run through the Gateway to Prep Schools portal. Transcripts must include grades from the past two academic years plus the first marking period of the current year.
- 03Essays & Interview
Students complete a Candidate Statement (four short-answer prompts plus one expanded essay response) and a Graded Writing Sample, preferably a non-fiction paper from the current school year. Parents complete a separate Parent Statement. Every applicant who visits campus has an individualized tour immediately before a one-on-one interview with an admissions counselor, followed by a parent/guardian conversation; a video introduction can serve as an alternative for families who can’t visit.
