How Our SAT & ACT Test Prep Works for Singaporean Students

 Diagnostic Assessment & Personalized Plan

Everything starts with a comprehensive diagnostic test that helps us pinpoint your child’s strengths and weaknesses, assess their test-readiness, and understand their unique learning style. We then customize a college test prep plan that focuses on your child’s specific needs.

    Targeted One-on-One Tutoring

Our personalized approach involves one-on-one sessions targeting the areas where your child needs the most support. Whether it’s mastering complex SAT math problems, improving ACT reading comprehension, or refining essay writing skills, our expert tutors provide focused and effective instruction.

Building Test Day Confidence & Success

On test day, we want your child to be calm, focused, and confident. That’s why we provide full-length practice tests that simulate real test conditions to help them become accustomed to the timing and pressure. Our goal isn’t just a good score. It’s making your child feel confident in what they’ve worked hard to prepare for.

My son’s SAT score improved dramatically after working with Cardinal Education. Their online SAT tutoring was incredibly flexible, fitting perfectly with his IB schedule at UWCSEA. Frequently Asked Questions

  • Ideally, students should begin SAT or ACT test prep about 6 to 12 months before their intended test date. This allows ample time to build foundational skills, practice extensively, and gain confidence without feeling rushed. For students balancing demanding IB curriculum or A-Levels, starting earlier is often beneficial to avoid conflicts with school exams and commitments. Cardinal Education offers flexible scheduling to accommodate busy student lives in Singapore.
  • Both the SAT and ACT are standardized tests widely accepted by U.S. colleges for undergraduate admissions.
    • SAT: The Digital SAT is approximately 2 hours and 14 minutes long. It consists of two main sections: Reading & Writing (evidence-based reading and writing, grammar, vocabulary) and Math (algebra, problem-solving, data analysis, geometry). The SAT emphasizes critical reading and logical reasoning.
    • ACT: The ACT is about 2 hours and 55 minutes long (or 3 hours and 35 minutes with the optional essay). It has four main sections: English, Math (including trigonometry), Reading, and Science. The ACT is often described as more straightforward, testing direct knowledge and speed.
Choosing between the two depends on your child’s strengths. We recommend taking a diagnostic test for both to see which format suits them better.
  • Students can take the SAT and ACT multiple times, and most U.S. universities will consider their highest scores.
    • SAT: The SAT is offered seven times a year (March, May, June, August, October, November, December). There is no limit to how many times you can take it.
    • ACT: The ACT is offered 5-6 times a year (February, April, June, July, September, October, December). There is no limit to how many times you can take it.
Our advice is to plan for 2-3 attempts, allowing for improvement without excessive testing. Our test prep programs are designed to help your child achieve their target score efficiently.
  • Beyond SAT and ACT scores, Singaporean students often face unique challenges in the U.S. college admissions process. These include:
    • Understanding the Holistic Review: Unlike Singapore's more exam-centric system, U.S. universities employ a "holistic review," which heavily weighs extracurricular activities, leadership experience, personal essays, and letters of recommendation. Students need to learn how to effectively showcase their strengths beyond academics.
    • Crafting Compelling Essays: In our experience, Singaporean students find the personal statement and supplemental essays to be the most challenging because they’re accustomed to more structured academic writing. Submitting a compelling essay that reflects your child’s personality and uniqueness are crucial to acceptance.
    • Navigating Cultural Differences: The U.S. classroom culture is very different to what you’ve been used to. There is more diversity in the community, which could lead to social and cultural differences. It would be helpful if you could visit the campus during application so your child can get a feel the vibe and determine if they are a good fit..
    • Choosing the Right Fit: With many colleges and universities to choose from, selecting one that truly align with your child’s academic, social, and career goals can be overwhelming. Creating a balanced college list is key.
At Cardinal Education, we offer comprehensive guidance that goes beyond test prep to address these challenges, helping Singaporean students present a strong, well-rounded application to their dream U.S. universities.
