If you’re looking to get into the best and most prestigious med schools, we can help you with our MCAT CARS Prep Program! We focus on the CARS section because we know most applicants find it very challenging.
The MCAT is an admission test taken by students seeking entrance to medical schools. It gives medical school admissions officers an assessment, together with scholastic records and other supporting documents, of an applicant’s readiness for med school.
The test has four main sections:
Many students prepare hard for the science sections because they believe that these are the hardest sections. But in reality, the MCAT CARS section is even more challenging because it contains unbelievably difficult reading comprehension questions. Although medical school aspirants may have read a lot of science books, medical articles, and journals, they may not have had a chance to read other types of literature or non-science-related non-fiction.
MCAT CARS covers humanities and social sciences, two academic disciplines that many students don’t give much attention to and only take these classes for compliance with the requirements. This section of the test is the only one without specific content topics students can review ahead of time. It measures critical thinking, analysis, and reasoning skills and covers a wide range of concepts from literature, arts, architecture, religion, political science, psychology, economics, history, and others.
In this test, students are given passages to read and are asked to answer multiple choice-related questions at the end. There is a time limit of 90 minutes to complete the test with a total of 9 passages and an average of 5 to 6 questions each. This means that a student only has 10 minutes to read, analyze, and answer the questions at the end of each passage.
In our experience, students who take the MCAT get high scores in the other three areas without the need for tutoring. However, they struggle with the CARS section because they either neglected it or they did not spend enough time preparing for it. Especially for Asian American students, many of those who dreamed of getting into med school have been unsuccessful because of poor performance in the MCAT CARS section.
At Cardinal Education, we understand that beyond MCAT practice tests, med school applicants need to focus on MCAT CARS as well. We have witnessed how failure in the MCAT CARS section hindered many students from getting into the medical school of their choice or even left them out of med school completely. This is why we have trained our MCAT tutors and coaches to help you overcome the challenges that the MCAT CARS section brings.
Our MCAT CARS test preparation teaches students test-taking, time management, and reading techniques to get through the test successfully. CARS passages often contain difficult vocabulary and complex sentence structures which makes it difficult to discern the main topic. Our coaches provide practice tests to train students how to read and identify the main idea of a passage and give tangible assignments each session to push the students towards the ideal strategy they should have.
