Orphaned and neglected, Mary Lennox is sent to live at her uncle's gloomy Yorkshire manor, where she discovers a walled, long-locked garden that had belonged to her late aunt -- and, in secret, begins to bring it back to life. Along the way she befriends a local boy, Dickon, and her sickly, bedridden cousin Colin, whose health and spirit improve as the three children tend the garden together. Frances Hodgson Burnett's 1911 novel is a classic about healing through nature and companionship.
