Ship's surgeon Lemuel Gulliver recounts four fantastical voyages, including to Lilliput, where he towers over six-inch-tall inhabitants, and to Brobdingnag, where he himself is the tiny one among giants, each society serving as a satirical mirror held up to the follies, politics, and hypocrisies of Gulliver's own England. Jonathan Swift's 1726 novel is one of the great satires in English literature, as much a biting political commentary as an adventure story.
