English is consistently one of students’ most challenging courses, especially once they enter high school. The abstract and critical thinking required to interpret literature, both modern and classic, relies on robust reading skills that students may not have fully developed yet, and the accompanying essays suffer from a corresponding weakness in translating thoughts into compellingly argued essays. Cardinal Education works with students to improve their reading and writing ability, engaging in repeated writing exercises and miniature book discussions to help students practice these skills so necessary for gaining the most from English. English subject coaching is also a natural partner with our Program in Writing and Rhetoric.
