How does Pinewood School use technology with younger students?

Pinewood takes a really thoughtful approach when it comes to their little ones handling gadgets. Younger students in kindergarten through 2nd grade share iPads inside the classroom. They know how kids can get overly excited, and by having “shared” iPads, they learn to control themselves and work collaboratively with their partner as they complete their tasks. What is emphasized using this approach is the opportunity to learn together, share ideas, and engage with interactive content as a class.

How does it go? For example, the teacher leads the group activity using an iPad to explore a new math concept. The students take turns manipulating the screen and solving problems together. Or maybe they’re diving into a story using an interactive ebook, where they can see the pictures and touch the screen to bring elements to life. This shared experience helps build collaboration and communication skills right from the get-go. This also allows the teacher to guide the use of technology more closely, ensuring it’s always tied to the curriculum.
